Proverbs 22:6
wTrain up a child in the way he should go; and even when he is old he will not depart from it.

Kindergarten News from Mrs. Henderson

During Jesus Time, we’ll hear that Jesus willingly suffered and died on the cross for us so that our sins would be taken away.  His death is the punishment of our sins. He takes our sins away so we don’t have to be punished.  Our reading theme this week is Growing Up based on the Big Book called Peter’s Chair. We will be introduced to the first long vowel we learn which is long “a” as in “cake.” In Math, we add doubles facts with sums up to 18, and identify lighter and heavier masses using a balance. Show and Tell for Friday, March 23 is Spring and for March 30, bring an Easter item. We will be studying caterpillars, butterflies, hatching baby chicks, Spring and wind using our Scholastic Magazines.   Social Studies, we hear American folk hero stories of Johnny Appleseed, Paul Bunyon with Babe the Blue Ox and more. In Science, we study the weather. Just a heads up that the week of April 9, when school resumes, is Pet Week. Each child is encouraged to bring in their family pet (or a borrowed one) to show for our Science Unit. I prefer that these pets are brought in during the morning between 8:00-8:30. If it’s something in a cage (hamster, gerbil, lizard etc.) it can stay all day but if it’s a dog, cat, goat etc. it will have to be taken home at 8:30.  If the animal is housebroken and not too large, you can bring the animal into the classroom or if not, we will meet you outside on the playground. It would be best if you could tell me what day to expect you but bring them regardless. If morning doesn’t work for you, please call me and we will arrange to bring it during lunch recess or before school lets out. Reminder that Easter break starts Friday afternoon, March 30.  Good Friday Chapel will begin at 12 noon and last until 1-1:30 (not sure). If you have to pick up your child early, let me know ahead of time and I will have him/her ready at 11:55 or you may come pick them up from the back pews after 12.  Guests are welcome for the Good Friday service beginning at 12. Have a blessed Easter Break!!

Kindergarten News from Mrs. Henderson

During Jesus Time, we hear about Jesus praying in the Garden of Gethsemane and how the disciples were not able to stay awake with Him. We will walk over to the church and examine the stained-glass picture in the front of the church of Jesus in the garden.  Thank you for making sure your child does the math homework every night.  For reading your child should be practicing sight words from the pink or gold sheet sent with his/her report card which will be sent home on March 16. It’s very important that you check your child’s comprehension when he/she reads a story to you so he/she remembers what he/she reads since this is the point of reading.  Our reading theme this week is Look to the Sky based on the Big Book called Bringing Down the Moon.  In Math, we ate apples and added the seeds from each half to make a math problem. We will now add doubles with sums to 10 by learning a doubles rap. We are also using a new tool called a “Wrap-up” to practice counting and then later to practice our math facts. This is a fun way using a string wrapped on plastic keys to learn necessary facts.  Please help your child practice writing to 100 and leaving a space between the numbers for ease of reading. In Social Studies, we study how we celebrate holidays in our families. Show and Tell on Friday, March 16 is to bring the Mystery Bag back with two opposites items in it and the sheet filled out with three clues. For March 23, the Show and Tell Theme is Spring.  Remember that Easter Break is coming up and runs from March 31-April 8.
